‘…As if a night filled with awesome music wasn’t enough, Dierks also had some surprises up his sleeve to kick off this “Country & Cold Cans” tour. He started talking about how much he likes the Foo Fighters and that him and his band listen to them backstage before shows. Next thing we know he has his good friend, and Foo Fighter band member, Chris Shiflett come out on stage. Dierks shared they both admire Gram Parsons which led Dierks to reveal his white Gram Parsons t-shirt he had on under his plaid shirt. They sang “Sin City” and the Foo Fighter song “You I Fell Into.” He also had another special guest, Garrett Hedlund, from the movie “Country Strong.” Dierks invited Will Hoge, and Eli Young Band to join him and Garrett and they sang “Hard Out Here,” which is a Hayes Carll song.’

Revenge drama Out Of The Furnace has enjoyed a fast rise among the big names of Hollywood. Brad Ingelsby’s spec script (back when it was called The Low Dweller in 2008) immediately hit the radar of Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio. And while they’re no longer directly involved aside from helping it along as producers, the film now has a director in Crazy Heart’s Scott Cooper and a star, with Christian Bale hopping aboard.
Furnace follows a man released from prison after serving four years. While he initially hopes to stick to the straight and narrow and enjoy some peace and quiet are ruined by his plan to find out who murdered his younger brother and avenge the man’s killing.
This is not the first time Bale has been associated with the project, though 2009’s connection was a little further under the radar: he was briefly attached when Snow White And The Huntsman’s Rupert Sanders considered making the movie as his big debut.
Cooper picked up the project last April and has been re-writing the script to suit his needs. Robert Duvall is circling with a plan to jump aboard, though there’s no deal in place yet.
Bale has a busy year planned out – he’s already down to shoot Terrence Malick’s Lawless and Knight Of Cups and there’s the small matter of a massive press tour for The Dark Knight Rises. According to the Heat Vision blog, he’ll squeeze Furnace in between the Lawless filming stint and his time spent chatting about Batman.
Of course, he’ll need a villain to go up against, and according to Variety,Cooper is targeting Viggo Mortensen to play that role. And while he’s still working through a wishlist for the role, the director is apparently narrowing the choice of who to play Bale’s brother down to Casey Affleck, Garett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch and Channing Tatum.
Thanks to Laura from Garrett Minds for the info!
Now that would be amazing to see Garrett playing alongside Christian! Fingers crossed!

This does not directly link to Garrett but if you wouldn’t mind taking the time to read this, watch and vote.
A good friend of GarrettMinds, Travis Nicholson, produced a short film that is screening at Sundance this weekend. Some of you may remember Travis from Country Strong; he appeared in a couple of scenes as a stagehand and he worked off screen as Garrett’s assistant and they’re still great friends in real life.
The film he produced is called The Arm, and it’s a very clever comment on how technology is changing the way we have relationships.
To keep up with social pressure in a technological world, Chance starts a texting relationship with Genevieve. But tragedy forces Chance to realize that he was never in a relationship at all.
Yahoo is having a contest for the short films showing at Sundance.
Watch nine of the Sundance short films, share them with friends, and vote for your favorite one below. The movie with the top votes will win the Yahoo! Audience Award and the filmmaker will receive $5,000 to continue their creative journey as storytellers.
All nine films can be watched HERE, and the link to The Arm is HERE.
Thanks guys!

It seems that virtually from the day that Warner Brothers greenlit the US, live action version of Akira rumors have been circulating that Tron Legacy star Garrett Hedlund was director Jaume Collet-Serra’s choice to take the lead role of Kaneda. It seems that the powers that be at WB now agree, as Twitch has learned that Hedlund has just received a formal offer to take the part.
Though best known for his part in Tron Hedlund’s past roles are actually quite diverse, including stints in genre fare (Death Sentence), romcoms (Georgia Rule), kid friendly fantasy (Eragon), and straight up drama both mainstream (Friday Night Lights) and indie, with Hedlund headlining Walter Salles’ upcoming Jack Kerouac adaptation On The Road.
Put Hedlund next to Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter – who have both been offered key support parts – and it’s clear that the producers are looking to fill the cast with recognizable names who are also actors with solid dramatic abilities, which is certainly preferable to many approaches. The curious part, however, is retaining the Japanese names despite shifting the setting to New York and the so-far all Caucasian cast.

After a long, hard-fought process, AKIRA is officially a go at Warner Bros. As SHOWBLITZ first reported, it came down to a meeting between creative and studio execs last week to discuss the new budget — and by the looks of things, they were happy with what they saw (the project had originally been over $100 million, but at one point was brought down to something closer to $90 large). Another piece of news to come out of those meetings: one of the first actors expected to receive an offer for one of the male leads is TRON: LEGACY star Garrett Hedlund. Hedlund has kept his head low since TRON’s release, but sources have said he has been a top choice of the studio and director Jaume Collet-Serra who, as SHOWBLITZ also first reported, replaced Albert Hughes in July.
Thanks to Mr Hedlund
