L&PM – which publishes a large part of Jack Kerouac’s work in Brazil, including On The Road and On The Road, The Original Scroll – has received an unpublished picture of the Walter Salles’ movie shoot, which is currently being edited. It’s an exclusive image in which Dean Moriarty, brought to life by Garrett Hedlund, appears “in trance”, surrounded by hot girls, dancing in a whorehouse in Gregoria, north of Mexico. What’s interesting is that, in a digital era, the picture was taken by Gregory Smith with an old Leica M and Tri-x black & white film. MK2 production company, from Paris, responsible for On The Road, has gently scanned the picture and sent us as a “gift” for publishing Jack Kerouac’s most famous book in Brazil.
The good news is that L&PM will pass this gift on. This Saturday, March 12, the date which marks Jack Kerouac’s 89th birthday, we will publish that picture – never published before! – here in our site, close to noon (noon in Brazil is 10am EST), and the L&PM followers on Twitter and Facebook will be informed first hand.
“I was born in 1956, a year before On The Road was published. If I had a few less decades, I would have discovered the On The Road in its Brazilian version. The translation is great, by the way… it’s alive, with the original text musicality, which wasn’t easy to achieve. Eduardo Bueno’s introduction for the Brazilian version is really good… better and more fascinating than the texts that come with the “scroll” version.” (Walter Salles, in an interview to L&PM Editors site).
Thanks to Simone from Hedlund Brazil for the translation! We should have the image soon! Cannot wait!
